Teach
English as a Second Language in Haiti
WHY? Teaching
English in an underserved community can increase educational and employment
prospects for people who would not normally have the opportunity to learn
English. In a country like Haiti, where unemployment is around 65%, having a
second language can open doors of opportunity.
WHERE? For
over 20 years, Greater Works Academy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has strived to
provide excellent education opportunities for the local community. Now the time has come to extend our outreach
to include adults. In an effort to help further their education, we are
establishing certified English as a Second Language (ESL) School.
WHO? We
are looking for mission-minded individuals who are certified willing to give some
of their time to aid us in our effort.
WHAT? All levels
of English teachers are needed. Curriculum will be provided. Speaking French is not required. Mornings
will generally be free to be used for personal time or ministry opportunities
which include visiting orphans at a girl’s home nearby, leading Bible studies, feeding
the poor and possible outreach programs.
WHEN? Times and dates are flexible.
HOW? Most
teachers have their financial needs met through donation-based support raising,
personal or private funds, or retirement. Building a strong team to support
your ministry in both prayer and finances is very important.
Housing is available at the mission. We ask that you pay
$10/day to offset the cost of meals, water and electricity. Travel expenses and
personal expenses will vary. Help is available for booking flights and
arranging transportation from the airport to the mission.
