In 1989, Greater Works Academy (GWA) was established in Haiti. Birthed out of the need to educate the girls from Greater Works Home for Girls (GWHG), the acdemy quickly expanded to include both boys and girls from the surrounding community. Today, a faculty of 28 Haitian teachers are educating 260 children from kindergarten through th 11th grade.
In light of the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010, when 90% of the schools in the Port-au-Prince area have collapsed, GWA has one of the only undamaged school buildings in the neighborhood.
In an effort to help the community of Delmas, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, GWA would like to expand their work to include adults by starting an ESL School. The vision is two-fold. Firstly, we want to help improve individuals understanding of English to enhance work opportunities. Secondly, we seek to establish a business which can provide employment.
